Forcing the cross on Jesus. Painting in the Franciscan Church of Condemnation, at the Second Station.
The Second Station is situated in the Convent of the Flagellation in the Chapel of the Condemnation, also known as the Chapel of the Imposition of the Cross, which stands, according to tradition, on the place where Jesus began to carry the cross. The chapel was built in 1903-1904. In the rear of
the chapel are Roman paving stones notched to prevent the horses from slipping. The stones are part of an ancient Roman road, erroneously once thought to be part of the courtyard of the Roman Procurator's Palace.
